How Building Community Benefits Your Coaching Career…
…And how to deepen your experience of community through the IWA student group!
A message from our founder –
Hello world changers!
Whether you are a potential student, current IWA student or graduate who is building out their coaching practice BUILDING YOUR COACHING COMMUNITY WILL GREATLY BENEFIT YOU!
I love the word community, however for this article I want to use the word ‘tribe’ instead…
A tribe is a social group in a traditional society consisting of people linked by social, economic, religious, or blood ties, with a common culture and dialect, common values and missions. Historically a tribe was an extension of a persons family and could be relied on to learn from, grow with and achieve success (thriving versus surviving) alongside of.
We all need support, we all need a tribe! We need to be able to get advice, bounce ideas around for feedback and feel connected to others on the same path. We need this not only to experience balance and wellness in our own lives but also to be the very best coaches we can be.
I personally have a tribe like this, and these coaches and practitioners in the healing fields have been my greatest supporters and part of the strong foundation I have built as a coach, business owner and teacher. I have no doubt that without such a tight knit tribe I would not be where I am in my career today. Not only that, it has vastly expanded my own personal development over the years. There is nothing like the feeling of being seen, heard and supported by a tribe of like-minded individuals, especially during those times of struggle… yes we ALL have those. Over your career as a coach you will have moments of frustration, confusion, decreased energy & passion, even discouragement. These are the times you need a solid tribe to lean on!
I wanted to share a few specific benefits of building a tribe as well as some ways to do this within the IWA student group. It is my deepest desire that the IWA community comes alongside of you and provides a safe space for you to build your own tribe within our larger community.

What are people saying about the Transform program?
Make a commitment and stick with it, this program will change your life. – Maddy
I took the program two times, once to work on some challenges I was having with my weight and physical health and the second time was about a year later to work on some emotional roadblocks that kept popping up in my relationships. Both times not only did I achieve the goals I set for myself for those 12 weeks but I also maintained them even years later. I got many other benefits out of the program each time I took it. – Jess
This program helped me to resolve some pretty deep seeded issues from the past that I hadn’t realized were leading my current marriage towards failure. Now I can say not only is my marriage headed in a positive new direction but I am experiencing more inner peace and wellbeing in other areas of my life as well. – Carol
Thank you Rachel for the Transform program, what a gift this was to my life! I never knew how important self-care was or how to even begin. I still practice the self-care that I learned during the 12-weeks and my life continues to be more balanced, even in stressful times. – Beth
The Transform program was a game changer for me in the area of my career. Now I am clear about my purpose and clear of the blocks that kept me from achieving success and happiness before. – Ben
I knew what I needed in my next season was a health transformation, full mind, body, emotion and spirit approach. I wanted to find a whole life approach to make a change not just a piece of it, which neglects the ‘why’. I found tremendous benefits from the whole person approach in the Transform program, not just focusing on food, or body, or mind, but seeing how they all work together. Commit to every week, expect healing to come, accept and enjoy it when it does. – Gabby
There are only 10 SPOTS AVAILABLE and in order to be accepted into the group you must apply giving your TOP 3 CHALLENGES OR GOALS you want to focus on during the 12-week group program.

Transforming Your Coaching Business Through Group Coaching
Our founder, Rachel Eva shares transformative business tips to expand your coaching business through group coaching…
For many years I had a private coaching practice. I saw clients and seemed to experience a really interesting (and sometimes very frustrating) cycle with my income and client roster. I would work hard to fill my coaching calendar and build my practice up to a ‘full load’, I would achieve this and then within a few months my business and income would yo-yo, dwindling down. This caused a lack of balance, had a negative impact on my stress levels and ultimately negatively affected the way that I was showing up as a coach. It also decreased the level of excellence and the quality, of my coaching.
One day, I sat back and found myself noticing my dwindling income (again!!) and surrounded by another wave of dwindling client loads, some having taken a break for a vacation or having wrapped up and moved on (as a result of our successful work together, they no longer needed that weekly support). Why did this keep happening? Why was this a constant uphill battle for stable income and a steady stream of clients?!? Of course, the next powerful question I asked myself was, ‘and how can this change?’.
Here was my answer…
If we spend our time and energy marketing to get a certain number of clients, when shifts happen we are left starting the entire process all over again.
So then what was the solution? For me, it was to incorporate group coaching, also known as group programs, into my business model. This would allow me to have a steady stream of new clients entering a coaching relationship with me every 3 months, make my offerings cost effective to get started and an opportunity to further build the relationship and rapport which then led to each time a new spot opened up in my one-on-one coaching schedule there were already people excited and ready to grab it. This was a game changer!
Top Benefits of Group Coaching Programs for Clients:
- Set time commitment, no long term commitment
- Affordable access point
- Support focusing on resolving a specific conflict or working towards a goal
- Clearly defined structure of what they get, for what investment and within a structured environment
Top Benefits of Group Coaching Programs for Coaches:
- Maximize earning potential and increase income
- Reduce number of hours working/coaching
- Reduce number of hours marketing & trying to find new clients
- A structure and system (a functioning wheel or business model)
- Time to build rapport and cultivate client relationships
But how? How do I begin incorporating group coaching or group coaching programs into my business?
I have heard that question from thousands of my students and also our graduates over the years. First, I want to burst the fairytale that by adding group coaching into your business model that you will magically NOT have to do any marketing…
Marketing is an essential part of any business. Effective marketing one of the key components that will determine if you are a successful coach or an unsuccessful one. Even the best, most highly trained specialist in the world won’t have a business that reaches its fullest potential unless they learn to also effectively market!
Sorry, I know that may be a bummer for some of you. I know it was for me when I was in private practice. Believe me, I wasted years and a lot of energy trying to avoid having to master marketing before I finally valued and learned that skill set. For those of you who still need to learn that element of business, IWA developed a fast track for you, the Business Mastery 12-week online course – to find out more about that or to pre-register click HERE.
Good news, marketing isn’t the only important aspect!
Ok, so what are the steps to getting your practice from where it is now to where you want it to be through adding the business model of group coaching.
- Create your program content for your group coaching program, or you can use the group coaching program content I developed, The Transform 12-week program. It is a stop-drop-and roll out ready program. All you will need is the book which can be purchased HERE. Make sure that you provide content that SOLVES problems or addressing concerns that your potential participants may have. Just calling it ‘a group for life coaching’ does not communicate what the benefit will be to people where as something like ‘overcoming debt, life coaching 12-week group to become debt free life coaching’ answers a specific concern and provides a specific benefit.
- Organize – Figure out the best time each week to hold your group coaching and the place to hold it – I have led group coaching programs virtually online, at Wellness Centers, Chiropractors offices, yoga studios, meditation centers, cafes, coffee shops and even churches or temples.
- Get it out into the world – share it with your friends, family, email contacts, post flyers at the market & library, create a Facebook event and boost or advertise it, post it on Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest or other social media platforms that you use. It’s helpful if you create either a pre-recorded FREE informational webinar or even a FREE live group meeting or conference call (I like to use freeconferencecall.com) first. So all of your posts and emails ARE NOT trying to get people to sign up, it’s getting them to attend the free info session (that’s very little commitment and a lot less fear will arise for them). Only invite them to sign up for your group coaching program AFTER they have gotten to know you a bit. Once you are at least ½ full, then you can begin also posting and sharing with people that you only have xxx amount of spots left.
- Hold your FREE info session – This is a time to build rapport, clarify what the benefits will be to someone participating and to answer questions as well as overcome objections. At the end of your session invite people to enroll. Charge money for your group – an equal energetic exchange actually helps people experience greater results and a higher level of commitment, adding a special bonus offer is also a great way to motivate people to ‘act now’.
- Lead your group – Provide support (with boundaries) and life changing content. Basically, BE of value and service. Build rapport and cultivate the relationships.
- Invitation to up-level – As the group is nearing the end of its course (maybe 1, 2, or 3 months for example) INVITE the participants to continue to work with you as one-on-one clients, or if you enjoy the amount of freedom group coaching brings to your schedule and life, invite them to enroll in another program. I have had people take the 12-weekTransform program 3,4 and even 5 times with a focus on another issue or a focus on up-leveling.
Let’s crunch the numbers…
Say you would like to be generating a minimum of $6,000 each month, what would this look like if we broke that down into one-on-one coaching sessions –
At $100 per session you would have to have 60 sessions each month to meet the $6,000 monthly revenue goal. The average client will see a coach once every other week, so twice per month. This means you need to have 30 clients that you are coaching each month and need to keep that number at 30 consistently in order to experience financial stability.
If you were running 3 different Transform groups each month, each with a different niche focus, ie. weight loss, career, financial wellness, health, relationships, pre-marital, parenting, etc. (each group running for 1 ½ hours per week) that would be a time investment of 4 ½ hours each week. For a 12-month program (3 months) I recommend pricing it NO LESS then $450 for the program (ideally more depending on the market), that breaks down to $37.50 per week, that’s a deal! Wouldn’t you pay less then $40 a week to change your life? The average American who drinks 1 coffee per day from Starbucks (a low average of $3 per day) spends $90 per month of coffee alone. For further comparison, the average yoga class these days in Los Angeles is $23 and the average Life Coaching session is $150. Again, $37.50 per week to change your life is a pretty sweet opportunity! Be confident in your prices, you are worth it and your client is worth it and worth investing in themselves!
If each of your 3 groups had 8 people in them, so 24 participants total each spending $450 for the 12 weeks it would earn you $10,800 (or $3,600 per month). If your monthly financial need is $6,000 then you would only need to find clients to cover the additional $2,400 each month. At your $100 per session rate for one-on-one coaching you would only have to take on 12 clients (if you saw each of them twice per month). That just cut the amount of clients and coaching hours that you need by ½!!
A Final thought about group coaching…
I am a HUGE believer and action taker towards service work. I am passionate about supporting people and making the work that I do accessible not only to the wealthy, also to those in need. Adding a pro-bono or sliding scale group coaching program allows you to also support those in need without draining your time and energy as well as and depleting your ability to earn a living! Food for thought 😉
As always, I hope what I have shared is helpful and supports your journey to living your best and most purpose driven life!
The two things every entrepreneur wants more of: Clients and Money… and yes, as a life coach, you by definition are also an entrepreneur!
One of our Instructors, Christine Wilborn has some powerful things to share with you about clients and money in regards to your business.
In the beginning of running a new business or coaching practice, you need cash, no doubt. But one thing new entrepreneurs, coaches, and practitioners focus too much on is the short-game approach, which prevents you from seeing your business as an investment vehicle (…and not a JOB).
People will start taking your business seriously as soon as you do. When you start treating your business like a legitimate business and start thinking like a business owner.
I’m going to give it to you straight today. I am guilty of making some of these ‘rookie’ mistakes myself and don’t want you to head down a path that leaves you broke, exhausted, and wondering why you got yourself into this with no returns to show for it. Am I right?
The biggest problem is not your business.
It’s how you see yourself IN your business and moving from working on your passion projects to seeing yourself as a viable business owner who has an investment to grow.
When you can start to view your business as a long-game approach, as an investor, you start to make different decisions, ones that allow you to have the wealth, lifestyle, and freedom you desire as a business owner.
Taking on the identity of an owner and investor, and treating your business like a business, means managing your key resources and assets. When you add value to and prioritize these assets your return on investment (ROI) dramatically increases.
Key Asset #1: Your Energy
That’s right…the first asset we must protect, is YOU! At this stage of your business, you’re probably doing it all, which means you have many roles to fulfill in your business. If you don’t have the energy to do it all, how is your business going to survive?
If you don’t look out for yourself now, how do you expect to protect your energy when your business gets bigger? If you’re burned out and overwhelmed, who’s going to run the company and take care of your business?
Energy is finite and limited. Successful people understand that the goal is to conserve your energy, not spend it. Hustling is trying to expend all your energy as fast as you can!
If you’re constantly sick, overweight, and never feel like you have enough energy throughout the day, you may be in trouble and need this more than any business strategy right now. If you’re not healthy who cares how much money you make… you could have all the money in the world and have loads of free time, but energy can be zapped in a second, by internal and external forces, and you won’t be able to enjoy any of it.
I made this mistake in the beginning. I ran myself into the ground and had zero energy for anything outside of my business. I was a blob. Don’t forget about the other things in your life that need your high energy too (family, partners, animals, hobbies, etc.).
Looking after yourself, protecting your energy, and taking care of your health is the fastest way to yield better results in your business. When you have energy, you can make things happen. When you’re healthy you have more capacity for handling adversity. When you take care of yourself it sends the message that you value yourself and that you deem yourself important.
Key Asset #2: Your Time
‘Hustling’ might make you feel busy…but don’t fool yourself into thinking you’re being productive.
It’s better to work smart than hard.
Working smart means doing the activities that bring in revenue and increase valuable relationships. I can’t tell you how much time I spent on things that didn’t matter when I first opened my business. I thought I was doing the right things, but I was actually busy being busy.
We all have the same amount of time during each day, making it count matters. You will only be able to take your business so far with hustle and brute force. You have to be smart and disciplined with your time.
As you move through the key stages of business you will begin to delegate tasks to other team members to leverage your time. Successful people understand how to leverage their time and create LESS work for themselves.
You can’t get back your time. Are spending it on things that are meaningful to you or do you feel like you’re constantly wasting time or don’t even know how to efficiently spend your time that gets you returns?
Protecting your time isn’t all about business either. Do you have plenty of time for your family, taking care of yourself, seeing your friends, traveling (because this is what really matters, right?).
Key Asset #3: Your Cash Flow
You’ve heard the phrase that “cash is king” in business. Well, it is! Unfortunately, most new entrepreneurs, coaches, and practitioners are terrible at managing their finances or knowing how much cash they have on hand at any given moment.
Even worse, most don’t know at what point they will run out of cash.
It’s great when you experience months of high revenue coming in…yet you mistake your revenue for income and suddenly you’re back at square one scrapping for cash again. You can’t live your life out of your business’s bank account, that’s just not sound business practices and it will get you into trouble in the long-run.
If you can’t talk about money, look at your finances, set terms and boundaries with confidence around money…how far do you expect your business to go?
And I say this with love…
If you are running a business and you don’t know all your numbers and what they mean you are destined to fail. Full stop.
Numbers indicate the reality of what’s going on in your business. And we try to avoid reality.
- How is the cash moving in your business?
- Where are you spending your money?
- How much you have and what can you afford to spend if you need a team in the future?
It’s not enough to have a bookkeeper and an accountant. Never leave your business up to someone else. You have to understand what the numbers mean. The numbers inform you as to how to make intelligent business decisions and projections.
“Well Christine, I’m just not a numbers person.”
Reality is that you have to used use to them if you’re going to run a business. Tracking numbers is not a tactic, it’s the backbone to doing business and being a responsible business owner.
I recently did a consult with a business owner who is doing amazing by anyone’s standards. I walked her through her numbers (something she had been avoiding) and found $60,000 in her business that she couldn’t see, that should could add to her bottom line.
She was thrilled and couldn’t believe that was right in front of her, but she was too afraid to look at the numbers. She thought she had to scrap her program and that wasn’t the problem. Nobody had ever walked her through an experience like that for her business that helped her gain confidence around her numbers.
You don’t have to like them, but you have to do them and know them. Numbers are the lifeblood of the business. Cash flow is the oxygen of your business. There’s no working around it.
It’s not an excuse. Take advantage of this now or come back in 5 years and realize you should have done this sooner. Nobody wants to talk about it or do it, you pretend it’s not there…well, except for me – I love numbers more than someone should.
As long as you understand what’s going on financially within your business you’re 10x more likely to be successful with your business. You will feel so empowered once you do!
If money makes you uncomfortable then you have to work that out before you go any further with your business, or it will always suffer and stall.
Educate yourself on how to manage your finances. How you manage $1 and how you manage $1 Million is no different. You need to protect your cash flow so that you always have money to re-invest back into your business. Growth requires cash.
Plus, it never hurts to have peace of mind when you have extra cash in the bank for a ‘rainy day’.
Your reality will always revert to the thermostat of your current self-worth, finances, and unhealthy business habits. If you don’t take care of these assets your business can come crumbling down in a heartbeat.
My personal experience with IWA changed my life and propelled me into living out my dream of pursuing my best life yet.
In 2015, I was forced to let go of people and things that were holding me back from truly living. That year, I buried my mother, ended my marriage of 17 years, and released long term connections and relationships with people that no longer served as support in my life. I was in a car accident that injured my back and could not workout as I was accustomed. I gained weight, felt tired, and had bills that were becoming overwhelming due to transitioning from a two income family to being the sole provider for my two children.
We had to adjust and budget to pay our bills monthly. I had to downgrade and trade in a 2015 SUV that we had just purchased to a less expensive car. I had to drain some investment accounts to stay afloat. I had four legal issues related to my mom’s estate, the divorce, personal injury, and another personal matter that required me to acquire four different lawyers.
I felt like a ton of bricks was on top of me. But I knew I would not give up and that I would make it somehow so, I made up in my mind to live, push, and not to stop. My social circle became very small because I knew that I did not need any distractions. In the past, I had spent so much of my life giving to everyone else and I knew it was finally time for me to give to myself in order to make it through this rough patch.
I saw an advertisement about the Integrative Life Coaching certification from IWA. My professional life was always a strong point for me so, I knew I wanted to renew a 2-day wellness coach certification that I took in 2011 that had expired. When I saw the discounted rate, I jumped at the opportunity. Even though I didn’t have the funds I put it on my credit card because I felt I was worth it.
It took a few months before I could really start the program since I was juggling two jobs and two kids, but since I worked for the school system, summer came and permitted a break for me to get started on the course.
I saw that the course would require me to be my own life coach first and I was interested in this. I didn’t know what it would mean to me to be my own life coach. I filled out the client intake form and felt it was long and hard initially but looking back it caused me to slow down, really reflect and dig deep instead of just existing.
I had to become mindful of my life in all areas and really consider what was good and what was lacking. I started my wellness journey, I started intentionally making time to listen to the online course and take diligent notes. I bought the book and read it.
As I worked through the journal and learned about the four systems (mental, emotional, physical and spiritual), I decided to put time, effort, and additional resources into my life. I hired a personal trainer who taught me to focus not on just working out but on nutrition as a major factor which was why I struggled with yoyo dieting. I joined support groups at my church for single mothers and small group bible study to get connected and to dig deeper spiritually. I started reading and intentionally conducting wellness workshops for my department at work. I also started using the coaching principles with my children and I saw them changing, focusing more on eating better, working out on their own, and even doing the yoga video that I bought them.
My life is truly balanced thanks to completing the Integrative Life Coaching certification program. By the time the practicum had come I had done the work within my own life and was happy with how balance my life was now. I was still open for suggestions on improvements and realize there is always room to grow and learn a few more strategies to really infuse ‘me time’ and personal growth. I took advantage of volunteering as a client for another students’ practicum.
Immediately after completing the program, I knew that I wanted to start my own business which incorporated life coaching but also infused my 16 years of professional work experience together. In period of two short months, I have a registered business, my website almost completed, I have branded my company and now am spreading the word about Remember You Matter, LLC to not just change individual lives of kids, teens, and adults through life coaching but also schools, communities, and businesses. I want to focus on decreasing the rate of suicide and coach people of all ages to spread the message of the importance of balance in the four areas through mindful reflection and taking time to tend to our core needs, in order to live life to the fullest.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for IWA putting out that advertisement and for my intuition and gut leading me to take the leap to register to unlock the key to putting me on the road to fulfilling my true purpose, calling, and destiny.
My business officially launched on January 1, 2018! I am more motivated than ever to see the end results and to continue developing and growing a successful business that will transform the lives of many people.
With 2018 right around the corner we want to support you in your business practices! This blog from new IWA business instructor Christine Wilborn shares some powerful takeaways!
I feel fortunate enough to have gotten a lot of things right in business and still, there are many things I wish I knew, that not many people talk about, before I started a business.
There’s a reason I call the beginning the ‘survival stage’. The beginning is overwhelming because there are so many new skills you have to learn, new habits you have to develop, new ways of thinking, new beliefs you have to adopt, and so much more in a short amount of time when all you care about is being able to pay the bills! Let’s face it, the learning curve is huge.
It’s a lot and amongst all of this overwhelm it can shake your confidence and increase your self-doubt. The excitement at the beginning is powered by a little naivety, and that’s a good thing! Because many would choose another path and not continue down the path of entrepreneurship if they knew what was coming down the pipeline.
Hindsight is 20/20, the perspective and vision you have after the fact is so much clearer than when you were in the thick of it. I won’t sugarcoat my list with sunshine, rainbows, and unicorns. This is real talk. I will not bullshit you because I lived it and made plenty of mistakes so that you don’t have to. And if you’re not ready to hear these then maybe you need to hear them 🙂
I get asked a lot about what to expect when you’re first starting out. I attracted employees who wanted to open their own studio at some point in their journey and my first question would always be:
Many could not answer this with an enthusiastic ‘YES’. That’s when I knew they weren’t quite ready… yet. Which leads me to #1.
1. You must love running a business
You will spend 15-20% of your time with clients doing what you love and 80-85% of your time marketing, selling, admin work, answering emails, and managing money. Running the business side of things is your first priority because without it you won’t be able to do the thing you love to do and you won’t actually have a business! Owning a business means you are a business owner first, then a practitioner, coach, or service provider.
The four key areas most new entrepreneurs, coaches, and practitioners avoid diving into are:
- Paying attention to your numbers and understanding what they mean – cash flow management, income statements, how to read financial statements and make effective business decisions based on the numbers
- Getting great at sales because that is your livelihood. It doesn’t matter how good your marketing is and if you get 100 leads per month if you don’t know how to convert them into a paying client
- Understanding how to market to and respond to your client’s wants and needs and how to adapt and adjust when they change
- Optimizing, leveraging, and automating as much as you can, as quickly as you can with systems – the only true thing that will give you the freedom you want
2. Spend more time taking care of your health and well-being than you think you need to
When you spend all your time, energy, and resources on your business and don’t make time for the things that actually keep you healthy you will eventually break down, burnout, and find yourself unable to work at the level that gets you results. I know, because I did this to myself. I worked, hustled, didn’t take care of my body or my energy, and lived with chronic pain for 4.5 years. My business performance got worse and worse as my body fell apart. You are no good to your business unhealthy, overweight, sleep deprived, ill, or in a hospital.
- Protect your sleep
- Eat for energy
- Move your body
- Practice self-care and stress management
3. Activity ≠ Growth
Just because you are staying ‘busy’ doesn’t mean you are doing the tasks that actually get you closer to achieving your goals. Most people live out their day working on urgent tasks, but don’t place an importance on the actual tasks that lead to results. Doing activities that promote growth, usually, marketing and sales are the biggest keys to getting the results you want. If you are doing a lot of things that are keeping you super busy and you’re not getting the results you expect, it may be time to re-evaluate those tasks.
4. Things take longer than you think
I’m a bit amused by the “Make 6 figures in 60 days” ads I see everywhere. There are a lot of ‘relative’ factors that go into that to make it a possibility. In my experience, if you make any adjustments and changes in your business, expect to see results, for better or for worse, in 90 days. If you change your marketing expect to see the results of it in 60 to 90 days. If you make adjustments in your finances, like cutting costs, expect to see a turnaround in your finances in 60-90 days. Yes, a lot of patience is required to run a business!
Side Note: Please track your changes so that you know what is working and what isn’t. Without tracking, you are running your business blind and making guesses as what to do vs. tracking reality so that you can make intelligent decisions based on your evidence from what you find.
5. All the best strategies in the world will not make up for a poor mindset, limiting beliefs, or negative emotions.
If your belief system does not match up with your goals, I don’t care what strategy you try, you will not get there. 90% of the work new entrepreneurs and practitioners need to focus on are their beliefs, their mindset, and their emotional state. Do the work to get those aligned with your goals first before you seek out the latest strategies and tactics to run your business. They simply won’t work and a lot of time will pass with growing frustration!
Owning a business, like marriage, and having children (so I’ve heard) lights up your shit. It magnifies it. If you already have money problems, health problems, relationship problems or poor habits of any kind…expect them to get bigger. It’s ok, just be aware of it and make time to work on these to get past them.
6. Don’t ever let anyone tell you what to do with your life or business
This is your business, your livelihood, and your future. When someone tells you what to do, it immediately disempowers you and if it backfires you get to blame them and not take any ownership of the outcome.
I wish I learned how to trust myself and my instincts a lot sooner than I did. It is your responsibility to understand things you don’t know and to educate yourself on things you don’t understand. Nobody else’s. It is your responsibility to understand what the numbers mean, not a financial advisor. You can’t hand off things that you need to understand to other people to decide for you. For example, you are held responsible for taxes, your financials, investments, it’s up to you to have an understanding of it so you can make good decisions. Not have someone else make decisions for you.
Think of your most important assets: time, energy, and money… don’t leave these up to someone else.
You are the only one responsible for your business, your life, and your results. Other people aren’t living your life, they aren’t supporting your family, and nothing you do will affect them, but it will affect you. Make decisions that are best for you and your family and don’t let anyone tell you what to do.
7. Understanding and Tracking Your Assets
- Your Cashflow
- Your List
- Your Network
- Your Time & Energy
Without these four items working for you, it will be difficult to sustain a healthy business long-term. Any break in one of these and the business comes crashing down. Cash is king, your list is the lifeblood of your business, your net worth truly lives in your network, and when you have high energy and more time you can take advantage of more opportunities, make better decisions, and handle stress with more flexibility and curiosity.
Entrepreneurship is no easy path, it can get lonely, bumpy, and challenging. AND it can be the most rewarding, exhilarating ride towards potentiality there is. You have to learn how to roll with the punches. There are many more things I wish I knew, but these are the main ones that would have set a standard for me to work with. I hope you found this useful, even though it is one of my more real, raw, and relevant emails I have written. I want to give you the truth and to help you get past the ‘survival stage’ of running a new business!
Just one more thing…
Celebrate your wins, no matter how big or small. I think I would have felt less self-doubt and had more confidence if I had taken the time to celebrate all the things that were going well vs. obsessing about the things that weren’t. I hope you choose to celebrate yourself and your wins because the journey is long and every win counts towards the bigger picture.
Keep it simple, make it easy,
A beautiful article from one of the IWA Instructors, Andrea Leda Wilborn…
I want to share an incredible story today about a woman I get to call a client. She inspires me every single week.
Not just because she shows up and does the work but because she reminds me what is possible when we dig into the depths of who we are…and open a new door.
Before I get to her story let’s talk about this a little – What does it mean to dig into our depths?
First, here’s a little myth I had to learn the hard way. Changing something that’s going wrong in your life isn’t about simply closing the gap.
But you’ve been taught this, right?
Me too. In fact I think this definition of change is even in the International Coach Federation’s description of coaching. Something to this effect – success ishelping you close the gap between where you are and where you desire to be.
Here’s the thing – change isn’t horizontal. It’s vertical. Let me explain.
Closing the gap is external. For example – trying a new strategy for growing your business or building a new plan for staying healthy. These are two things outside of you.
Now I agree that change can occur here. You can alter how you do something and experience a different result.
But I don’t think you want to merely alter something. I think you’re ready to experience a transformation in your life.
This might be a stretch but think about it – why do we hire a therapist? Work with a coach? Attend a life-changing conference? Read the trendy self-help books? Take classes on meditation and prayer? Build in rituals?
We don’t embark on these things to alter single habits like eating chocolate or fighting with our spouse.
We embark on these because we’re searching for an easier, more fulfilling, and peaceful way to live our life.
This isn’t a minor change – it’s a calling from the Self and the Soul to dramatically shift how we do life!
Something that radically shifts how you see yourself and the world, which creates, not just a new result, a whole new way of living.
Transformation is vertical. Transformation requires you to go into the depths of who you are and ask questions like:
What does ‘playing big’ mean to me?
What great impact am I here to create?
What self-limiting stories are on repeat?
What does total fulfillment look and feel like?
What is so compelling about the way I live my life?
What scares me?
What inspires me?
Even if you answer one question – answer it.
If you do this I can promise you that you’ll discover a glimpse of your depth – the things that make you, you.
I call this depth your roots. And this I know for sure –
The Roots you plant are the Fruits you reap. Most of us begin doing change work on the Fruits – we employ new strategies for more money, happier partnerships, more successful businesses, motivation and fulfillment.
But what’s possible if you dug, just a little, into your roots?
Imagine what it would it feel like to be able to totally surrender…to be able to slow down, breath, and create a life that is meaningful and deeply satisfying…
Imagine if you could create a business from peace of mind and not begin with burn our or marketing strategies…
Imagine totally trusting that money flows to you…
This happens in your roots.
Here is what I believe to be true with the entire essence of my being and every fiber in my body – Change your root, shift what you plant, and you’ll never have to struggle with the details again.
Big promise, I know.
Let me share this story now about a client. I’ll call her Lisa. Lisa is like so many women – her story is significant because it demonstrates the power in going into our roots.
Lisa came to me just before the first leaf fell this fall wanting to radically grow her business.
Lisa is a healer and a recovery coach. She is a single mom with two awesome children. She loves her work and is in her purpose lane. Success wasn’t new for her but she was in a rut. She felt something big was on the horizon…but how to get there?
I describe Lisa as on-purpose, intuitive, and curious. She’s a go-getter, hard-working, independent, and intelligent. Lisa is an empath, a nurturer, and searching for something bigger than her.
She had talked to several other coaches about strategy and goals for making some big changes in the coming months.
Then she came to me. Here’s the thing – I don’t do strategy.
In our first two hours together I shared with her that no strategy or goal would compensate for a story that was no longer serving her.
This story was one of her roots and she was seeing the fruits of this every day.
The old root story: “It’s not safe to be on my own.”
This story may be so simple. But as we peeled back the layers she discovered how this story was not allowing her to be the incredible recovery coach and business owner she could be. It was keeping her business from thriving and ultimately her life from ease.
We never talked about action steps. We never coached around new ideas. We never discussed growth tactics.
We let go of the story and wrote a different one.She planted a new root. And then something that even surprised me happened.
She organically and effortlessly grew her business…
- Lisa’s revenue increased by 400% in less than 90 days.
- Her transformative coaching program received plenty of applicant’s and she had to turn people away.
- She ended a toxic relationship safely and confidently.
- She de-cluttered her entire home, painted furniture, and made her space a place that inspired her for the first time in her life.
The most remarkable part – She now practices the art of surrender and allowing everyday. She is at peace.
Here’s the magical part – we never talked about strategies for any of her new success. She created this 100% on her own because we planted a new root!
Her new root grew into fruits of money, collaboration, peace, and safety.
I’ve never met a single human being who doesn’t have a story that isn’t interfering with the greatest and grandest version of their life. A root that is not producing the kind of fruit you want –
If you want better relationships, more money, better health, successful business, happiness….Then let’s dive into your stories, beliefs, habits, purpose, fear, and self-worth.
Most of us try pruning the tree when we need to have a look at what we’ve planted. What if you could create the kind of results Lisa did with one story, one root?
Much love and light,
Every coach who starts a business faces roadblocks along the way. Here are the top five roadblocks and simple steps to help you navigate the journey.
What are the top business roadblocks that life coaches face?
- Trying to Be the Expert
Putting Pressure on Yourself to Know It All
Putting Pressure on Yourself to Be Perfect
- Not Charging Enough Money for Your Services
- Being Unclear About Your Own Business (Being un-focused)
Niche Services and Offerings
- Not Running Your Coaching Practice Like a Business
- A Self-serving or Fear-Based Attitude Towards Clients and Money
What are 5 Tips to Overcome these Business Roadblocks?
- Remember that you are simply a tour-guide and a resource! Overcome your own beliefs that limit you from becoming the very best coach you can be by doing a full ECM session. A full session is now available inside the IWLC online course. Also, give yourself permission to not be the ‘perfect coach’, let it be a little bit messy and authentic!
- Create a pricing sheet and set boundaries for yourself. Choose to value your time and coaching services and then put that choice into action.
- Mind Map and Vision Board Your Ideal Practice. Get very clear about what you want to create and experience in your coaching business! When you finish post these somewhere you will see them daily.
- Action Graph* the Following:
- How to get more client’s

Part 2 – Coaching Models, Pricing & Structure
Now that you have read Building a Successful Life Coaching Business – Part 1 and are in the process of setting up the foundational elements needed to have a successful life coaching practice, how do you figure out how to price your services?
There are a number of elements to consider as well as research before setting your rates, guidelines and service offerings. Here are a few concepts to help you do this –
- Niche or Demographic of Clients
Understanding who your potential clients are, what their needs might be and what rates they can afford are hugely important to consider as you begin your coaching practice. If you are passionate about only working with a specific niche or demographic you will need to know and consider meeting their needs and budgets while also honoring your own value. Do some research on the types of people you want to see as clients and craft your rates accordingly.
If you are planning to have a more generalized coaching practice, meaning seeing a wide range of clients with a wide range of issues or problems they need help with it, is easier to set your rates more based off an industry standards for life coaching as well as based on what you realistically value your time at.
Either way, give some thought to the type of clients you want. What are your dream clients? Be intentional about crafting your business to align with your unique gifts, abilities, purpose and calling! Give yourself permission to create a business that will be deeply fulfilling and rewarding for you on every level. Also give yourself permission to NOT take on every client you possibly can, but to create a specific lane that aligns with your values and then stay within that lane (unless of course, you find yourself impassioned about a new issue or type of person that you want to explore and add to your personal definition of ‘dream client’).
- Industry Standard Pricing
The industry standards vary greatly depending on how you position and market yourself. For example, if you are an Integrative Life Coach trained through Integrative Wellness Academy, you offer more dynamic coaching that is both traditional life coaching as well as integrates therapeutic techniques. If this is the case, the industry standards for coaching align more with higher level professionals such as therapists, corporate coaches and doctors. Traditional session rates range from $150-$500 per session (typically 45 minutes to 1 hour).
If you are trained as a traditional life coach, the niche you choose and the effectiveness of marketing will determine your rate. For example, traditional life coaching rates tend to range from $60-$100 per session (typically 45 minutes to 1 hour) if the focus is on health or wellness coaching. Those rates parallel more to that of personal trainers. For traditional life coaches who specialize their niche on higher income clients such as performance coaching or career coaching can demand a higher rate more similar to those mentioned for the more expansive integrative life coach’s professional rates.
Whether you are trained as an integrative life coach or as a traditional life coach there are ways to maximize both the impact of the services you offer as well as the income you generate. I will go into this more below under coaching models.
- Service Offerings & Time Investment
I have had many students who are newer coaches and therefor set their rates extremely low because they don’t feel justified in charging the industry standards since they are a ‘newbie’. First of all, trust in your excellence and your unique voice! Also, trust in the training you received as a coach! Can you imagine if a medical doctor was ½ price because he had recently completed his residency? That would not breed confidence and trust for the patient and also it would reflect the self-devaluing of the doctors training. Trust in your greatness. You have much to offer! Mastering any science or art takes a long time. So give yourself permission to be IN the process of expanding your excellence while still honoring the value that who you are as a coach today is VERY valuable to your clients. Set your rates accordingly.
As you establish the types of services you offer and set your rates for these, make sure that you consider the time investment you will be making. I have also seen many of my students as they embark on their new coaching business end up giving away free ‘trial’ sessions, 30-minute phone consultations and also investing countless unpaid hours into calls and emails with their clients. First, this also devalues the worth of your services, second it communicates exactly that to your clients and negatively effects the coach-client relationship. It is easy to burn yourself out this way.
One of the goals of being your own boss might be to have more control and freedom in your schedule. If you do not establish your business practices in a way that both honors your value and time as well as respects your boundaries (the boundaries you set to meet your needs, these are up to you to honor) you will easily become overworked and underpaid or at the least, over stressed. As a coach, having your personal business reflect balance and health speaks volumes to your clients and loved ones! Be the change you wish to see in the world and apply your coaching tools to how you personally do business.
Coaching Models, Pricing & Structure
- Individual Sessions
Individual sessions simply mean a client schedules, attends and pays for one session at a time. Your sessions can run for as short or as long as you would like to set them for. The average is an hour and I have also seen effective session times at 45 minutes and even 1 ½ hour sessions.
- Coaching Packages (3-6-12 Month Options)
An effective way to create safety, support and stability for both you and your client is to offer (not sell or attempt to force) coaching packages. This helps give everyone a clear perimeter for what to expect, what it will cost and how much and what type of services and support the client will receive. Coaching packages include a certain number of coaching sessions per month, a certain amount of follow up, research and support (depending both on what you offer as well as the needs of the client). These should be clearly outlined and agreed to by both parties upfront.
An example of a monthly coaching package is:
1 Month Coaching Package – $3,000
1 weekly ‘touch base’ 15-minute call
2 weekly support text interactions
1 hour of support research
I recommend establishing coaching packages for 1, 3, 6 and 12 months in order to provide options and different commitment levels. You or your client may not want to commit to an entire year or that may be exactly what would serve you both the most. Remember to remain flexible!
- The Clients Return On Investment
When anyone invests in something they want to see a return on their investment or an ROI. People tend to see a life coach versus a therapist because they want to SEE tangible results as an outcome of their investment of time, energy and money into the coaching process. It is critical to your business and the well-being of your clients that you are making sure to set achievable goals, acknowledge and celebrate the small steps along the way AND to also get feedback at the end of each session to make sure that your clients are achieving the results they want.
If a client is achieving the results and benefiting from a return on their investment, most likely they will continue to invest in themselves and the coaching relationship. On the flip side, if the return on investment decreases or disappears all together, that client will seek another resource elsewhere to meet their needs.
After taking everything into consideration that I have mentioned, as well as doing your own research, you will be ready to set your rates. Remember that you can change your rates in the future to continue to expand and cultivate effective business practices. Your clients’ responses to your rates will be very helpful feedback to pay attention to!
Here are some general recommendations when it comes to rates –
- Individual session rates
Industry standards range between $60-$500 plus per session. Don’t get greedy, it will limit the amount of people you are able to help. Also, don’t undervalue yourself! My recommendation to coaches is to not go under $100 per session unless you are serving a sliding scale or service based client (see below). A good average session rate is $200.
- Coaching packages
Here are some general industry standards for coaching package pricing –
- 1 month- $2,000 – $10,000
- 3 month- $6,000 – $30,000
- 6 month- $12,000 – $60,000
- 12 month- $24,000 – $120,000+
Keep in mind the ROI for your client. If you are coaching a CEO and the return she sees is to increase profitability by 3 million dollars while decreasing her time investment at work while increasing quality of life, the ROI on an annual investment of $100,000 is well worth it!
Get creative, keep your clients’ needs and budget in mind, keep your own value and services offered in mind, then create packages that serve the greater good of both you and the client!
- Sliding scale
I am a person who is deeply committed to being of service, while also honoring my own value! One of the ways I had incorporated those values into my personal coaching business for years was to offer a sliding scale. A sliding scale is when you offer some flexibility in your rates to allow accessibility to those less fortunate or on serious budgetary limitations. I would have 2 sessions per week that I would allot for sliding scale clients. For example, if your normal rate is $200 per session, your sliding scale rate would be less and based on what the client can afford to pay. This way I could help clients whom I was passionate about helping but who were unable to afford my full rates. ALWAYS charge something for these, it will keep your client invested in the process and serve them better in the long run.
- Service work
Service work is FREE work we as coaches donate in order to be of service to the community and the world. I personally try to schedule service work into my life on a weekly basis. I have organizations that I work with in order to achieve this. When it comes to service work FOLLOW your passion. If you have a great passion and empathy for single moms, underprivileged youth, cancer survivors, veterans or anyone else in need listen to your heart and find a balanced way to be of service. If you would like to read more about the local and global service work that I personally participate in, here is a link for more information. If you are interested in coming alongside of me in service, I would love to see you involved in one of our service events! https://iwacoaching.com/service-programs/
A Blog Series to Help You Start or Expand a Successful Life Coaching Business!
By Rachel Eva, Integrative Life Coach and Founder of Integrative Wellness Academy
Part 1: Setting-Up The Foundation of Your Coaching Business
You will need to make choices after you collect information about life coaching and life coaching businesses in order to create a business that works for you. What you see one life coach doing may or may not be best for you. One foundational element you will need is SOLID life coach certification training (I have provided more information on this below).
Some of the choices you will need to make is whether or not to file a DBA and simply open a business account for your coaching business or if you will choose to file for an LLC. I recommend researching the pro’s and con’s for both options, then speaking to a professional such as a business attorney and/or an accountant for advice.
No matter what options you decide is best for you here are some additional foundational stones for you to build your coaching business:
Approach your coaching business with an entrepreneurial mind-set. This is your baby, your business and it is easy to get swept up into creating the very best business you can. This can be a dangerous and slippery slope for you energetically and financially. After having a thriving private practice for many years (until I could no longer see private clients and keep up with the demands of running Integrative Wellness Academy) I want to impart something I learned about successful entrepreneurial mind-set…
Take the most effective step possible, get feedback,
make adjustments and then take more steps.
When starting any business, you need to decide what would be healthy and balanced for you to invest time, energy and money wise. I highly recommend that you do not dump a ton of time or money into setting up and launching your coaching business. Meaning don’t drain your bank account and quit your day job. Approach building your business in steps. What’s the point of investing 10k into a website that you will end up completely redesigning a few months down the road once you discover what works and what does not? I originally founded IWA with $300!
Here are some basic things that you will need in order to successfully launch your coaching business. Look at these like modes of transportation, like a car for example. You can buy a Ferrari, a Chevy or simply get and ride a bike until you can afford the mode of transportation you truly desire.
You and your business will need –
- Life Coach Certification
How do you choose the right certification program, there are so many out there?
There are many different options out there for you to get trained and certified as a life coach and it can be confusing! There are some options to take a brief online course for $30 and get a certification, there are year-long programs that cost $10,000 and everything in between. So how do you know which option is best for you?
Here are a few tips and also questions to ask yourself:
- Do I want to focus more on behavior modification or sustainable and balanced positive change?
- Do I want to help people increase performance while also creating positive lasting change and overcoming core issues?
- Do I want to coach from a holistic or whole person approach?
- Do I want to be trained so that I am able to be a life coach who is able to coach in all major areas of life; health, career, finances, relationships, personal development and spirituality?
- Do I want to have a generalized coaching practice or a focused niche?
If you want a more expansive training that covers the holistic approach, therapeutic techniques to support clients in overcoming/resolving core issues as well as creating effective sustainable action plans to achieve goals and positive change then you will want to become an Integrative Life Coach through IWA (Integrative Wellness Academy). IWA is the only training academy that offers the foundations and core competencies of life coaching as well as expanded training that draws from 20 other healing modalities in order to fully prepare you to coach both niche and general clients. You will be able to coach your clients in all major areas of life from a holistic or whole person approach. For more information on how to become trained and certified as an Integrative Life Coach through IWA visit https://iwacoaching.com/coaching-programs/
Do you need to choose a school or program that is accredited?
The answer is no. There is no legal governing body for life coaches. It is an unregulated industry. The most important thing is that no matter who you choose to study with, to make sure that you will be able to get liability insurance as a coach and that their certification will be recognized by insurance companies.
Again, there is no legal, official governing or regulating body for coaches and it is not necessary to be a part of any of the ones that have introduced themselves within the market. The field is not and will not be a regulated field such as therapists or physical modalities such as massage therapists who require a state license and are regulated by state governing bodies. So the bottom line is to choose the best school, the one that is affordable, aligned with your values and will provide thorough training and preparation for you to become a successful life coach.
- Liability Insurance
Whatever program you choose, make sure that with the certification that you earn you are able to get liability insurance. It is an important piece to creating a coaching business. This is for your protection and the protection of your clients.
- Your Brand
As a life coach, you are your brand! You will need to communicate to your potential clients, who you are, what you do, and what type of person you are the right match for. You will also need to communicate other less tangible things like trust, safety, help or support and other words that may directly apply to any niche coaching your business may focus on such as transformation, health, relationships, career, self-development, etc. When it comes to both design and wording on your marketing materials (web site, blogs, posts, business cards, etc.) keep it simple, clutter free and not overwhelming.
All of your marketing materials (all the ways you put yourself out there into the market) communicate a message and will create ‘a feeling’ when viewed by potential clients. So be intentional about what you want to convey. Be intentional when you choose the colors, font and images. Create a few versions, show them to (non-biased) acquaintances and ask them for feedback such as ‘what feeling do my materials make you feel’ and ‘What type of message do you think these materials communicate’ and ‘If you just looked at these without reading the words, what type of business would you think I was in’ and ‘what kind of person do you think would want to do business with me based on these materials’
Another element of your brand is your business name, your title and a short elevator-pitch line or tagline that clearly communicates what value and services you can offer to a potential client. Many coaches do not name their coaching businesses and opt to use their name and then their title such as ‘Integrative Life Coach’. When it comes to a tagline try to put yourself in your client’s shoes. I have seen many fancy esoteric taglines that do not communicate anything other than confusion to potential clients. If you try to put your 1-2 sentences into this format it may be helpful:
‘I am a ___ (specific type of coach) ___who provides ___ (type of coaching/value) _____to ____ (type of client) ___’
An example of that could look like – ‘Holistic life coaching that provides balanced life transformations for new moms’
- Web site
Building a website can feel like a daunting task, however it can be simple and inexpensive. Of course you can hire a web developer to build one for you, or if you are tech savvy enough to use Facebook you can probably create your own simple website (even one that allows you to post your schedule, allows clients to schedule themselves, and even receive payments through your site) using either WordPress or Squarespace
- Business cards
These are a necessary staple to have and to carry with you at all times. Whether at a networking event, dinner party or sitting on an airplane have your business cards handy and available at all times. I recommend simple business cards with your name, business name (if different then your name), your title (be clear about what type of coach you are), a powerful one liner that communicates what you do and what you offer as well as your contact info.
- Separate business banking account
No matter how you set up your coaching business I cannot stress the importance of opening a separate business bank account for your business. This will allow you to keep business finances clear, organized and easy to report. Pay yourself out of that account. Do your best to keep your personal finances separate from business finances.
- Payment processing
Being set up to take credit cards is a must in today’s world. There are numerous options out there and many of which can be integrated into your web site. The two I have used and would recommend are Stripe and Square.
- Book keeping
When you use Stripe and Square it is easy to print reports and receipts both for your clients to use as well as for your records. This will be credit cards only. For overall book keeping keep track of all your income and expenses. Create a business budget so that you know what your overhead is and what your average income is (obviously coaching businesses will fluctuate on income month to month a bit). You can keep track of all of your financial records in Quick Books or Quicken, or even by creating an Excel spreadsheet. Whichever option you choose, do track and keep up to date. This will make doing your personal budget easier and more accurate. Keeping good records will also save you time and money when it comes to doing your taxes.
Learning how to market yourself and get clients has proven to be the biggest challenges not only for life coaches but also for therapists, doctors, personal trainers, nutritionists and other therapeutic practitioners. The goal should be to learn how to effectively market yourself without spending large sums of money or time unnecessarily. Utilize free platforms like:
- Social Media
Take advantage of the social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter to begin reaching more potential clients. Provide support and helpful information within each post. Do not just use it to barrage people with ads. They will quickly unfollow you. You must provide free value. Videos are a great way to do this.
- Apps like Meet Up and Thumbtack
Use Meet Up to advertise your services and create informational meet ups or even a group coaching program (see the Transform program information below). Use Thumbtack as an inexpensive way to reach those specifically requesting a life coach.
- Create Facebook pages, events and ads for your business
Using Facebook to reach millions of people that would normally be outside of your access point is a fantastic way to get more clients. This will also allow you to see more clients through Skype or over the phone for sessions. Ad campaigns can be set up to meet your budget. Start SMALL and see what works and what doesn’t and then make adjustments from there. Just be sure that your ads and your page itself provides helpful information too!
- Facilitate a Transform program
This is a highly effective group life coaching 12-week program. To read more about Transform visit and for simple steps to leading a group visit https://integrativewellnessacademy.com/iwa-coach-resources/ . You can also join the Transform facilitators private Facebook community to ask more questions by clicking this link https://www.facebook.com/groups/transformfacilitators/
- Host an informational event
Cocktail parties are a great way to have a little coming out party for your new or expanding coaching practice. Invite friends and encourage them to invite others. Make sure to make the event fun and attractive with giveaways such as a raffle for 3 free coaching sessions. Also include a creative way to highlight what you do without preaching to the crowd. A fun one to do is a values elicitation. Ask for a volunteer who wants to get some additional clarity in the area of either relationships, career, health or spirituality in less than 5 minutes and who is willing to volunteer to do the exercise with you in front of the group.
- Set up a speaking gig!
Whether it is at a local company, charity event, school, organization or local networking event, giving a life coaching talk on a topic like work-life balance, mindfulness, wellness or increasing productivity, this will provide you with an excellent opportunity to market yourself and your coaching business to groups of people who will have more trust and clarity about how you can help them after hearing your talk.
- Launching Transform Groups
The Transform Program is a 12-week life coaching program that can be held in a group and facilitated by a you in order to increase your earning potential, decrease the amount of hours you work and decrease the amount of time and energy you spend on marketing efforts all while increasing your impact! As a facilitator you charge group participants for the 12-week program and then at the end also invite them to become a one on one client!
Here are some basic guidelines for facilitating a Transform program:
START A GROUP
The Transform program is a simple and effective way to launch or grow your coaching business.
Here are the steps to beginning your Transform program group:
- Order Transform program books either on com or rachelevaonline.com – don’t forget to build the cost of each book into the overall cost of the program (providing the books before the first group meeting ensures that all participants will actually get the materials needed at the beginning of the program or you can allow participants to purchase their own book – see below)
- Set group time and place (and price!)
- Invite everyone – aka share the news!
- If you have not done so, have your participants order their book and fill out the client intake section before the first class
- When you meet each week go over the group guidelines (at the beginning of the book) and then read the lesson of the week and then simply open the floor for discussion about each week’s message, assignment, and what they have learned.
- Allow each participant time to share yet do not force anyone to share who does not want to.
- Ask powerful questions of the group and then allow them to discuss (see powerful question list below for ideas.)
- At the beginning of the program, once in the middle and again at the end invite people who may want to work one on one to become your coaching clients.
Here are some powerful questions facilitators can use to begin and expand group discussions during each Transform group meeting:
- What did you learn or discover about yourself or your life through this week’s assignments?
- What feelings and or behaviors came up for you?
- Is there anything that became clearer for you?
- What were the issues or ‘problems’ you found you are challenged with?
- How are those things specifically a negative in your life?
- What are some of the actions you take or have taken in the past that contribute to those problems or what are the steps that manifest or lead to those problems?

It is 2017 and the world continues to change. We in the US will be swearing in a new president, one whom there has been conflict around. There have been great divisions on topics such as gender, sex equality, racism and how to respond to the growing violence and terrorism. I have heard much anger and fear in the news, on social media and in coffee shop conversations daily.
Magnifying anger and fear simply breeds more of this. Magnifying the positive changes each of us can make in order to contribute to the world becoming a better place is where I invite you to shift your focus and mindset towards.
BE THE CHANGE you wish to see in the world!
If you want love, unity, peace and healing WHAT STEPS CAN YOU personally take to add these things in the world? Many of us want to look outward and fix ouster problems, but maybe our part, our contribution is to heal and grow ourselves along with taking outer steps to contribute to positive change. As you know by now, myself and IWA are passionate about contributing to positive change in ourselves, our team, our students and the community both locally and globally!
In about 30 days, IWA is headed to Nicaragua to work with a group of courageous women, that are working to overcome a grueling set of circumstances, domestic abuse, lack of work and extreme poverty. The Padre Ramos community has been rebuilding after a series of natural disasters, extreme poverty and a lack of resources. Journey, the organization we are partnering with, has been there for a few years meeting some basic human needs and helping to rebuild homes and schools.
Now the community is ready to get support and resources to heal themselves and change their future conditions.
For 5 days, we will be conducting IWA workshops and providing one-on-one Integrative Coaching sessions free to the community. Using tools and training we are dedicated to empowering this community to learn how to rebuild their community towards wholeness.
This service trip is an opportunity to advance the IWA mission to spread healing and wholeness to the world… and we invite you to be a part of this journey!
Three major ways you can participate in this service trip.
Share ALL of this information and the donation link with your tribe, and recruit them to get involved.
As you know, we are all connected. We are planting seeds to help grow this community into a place of healing for the immediate community, surrounding areas, and for future generations. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause. Every single drop of water when combined with other drops can create a flood of change. Please add your drop whether through joining us, donating or simply by sharing this on social media. Be the change!
We often have dreams and goals, but seem to continue our old habits. We get caught up in old daily habits and never-ending to-do lists that hinder our personal growth. When we stay stuck in these cycles, our goals remain out-of-reach and never fully materialize.
“When is enough, enough?”
“When will you choose to no longer stay stuck?”
Yes, it is a choice. The timing may never be right, the list of things calling for your attention may never decrease. Yet, there is still a choice—a choice to show up for YOU!
At times, we all struggle to achieve our goals and live the lives we desire. We fail to achieve the career, stability, happiness, fulfillment, relationships, and freedom we want. We fail to be ourselves. We align ourselves both consciously and unconsciously with beliefs that limit us. We narrow our perspectives, limit our options, and prevent ourselves from achieving what we truly want to achieve.
Sample Limiting Beliefs
“I can’t take the time for this.”
“I will do it later.”
“It will just work itself out.”
“If it doesn’t happen on its own, maybe it’s not meant to happen.”
“I don’t deserve it.”
“I’m not good enough.”
What happens when we get caught up in our stories and simply continue around and around on the merry-go-round? We don’t live a life that’s aligned with our true selves. We don’t experience life to the fullest. We don’t live our dreams, have fulfillment, purpose or all that we are able to have. What we end up with is the mediocre version of our lives.
Our Mindset Creates our Reality. The path of least resistance is actually showing up for ourselves, authentically. It is letting go of things that no longer serves us and stepping powerfully into our purpose and into our full potential. It is becoming the best version of ourselves as parents, partners, lovers, friends, children, co-workers, leaders, and humans!
Overcome limiting beliefs and negative emotions that are holding you back. Get clarity on your values, purpose, and goals. Get equipped to actually create the things you want. If we do not intentionally create our lives from a place of freedom, then we won’t live an empowered life. We instead choose to allow life to happen to us. And what happens? Stuff usually happens. Stuff we don’t want. And then we wonder why, asking ourselves, “Why us?”
This is among the critical areas where life coach advice or ideal guidance can stop you from limiting yourself and can open a new door toward personal growth. If we are victims, it is because we have chosen that reality through our thoughts, perspectives and actions.
The time to break free is now!
It is a choice.
I invite you to choose a breakthrough.

Meditation (listening) and prayer (talking) are two powerful ways to grow your spiritual life! Many times we do not notice growth because it happens slowly over time. Creating a meditation and prayer journal is a wonderful tool for growing your spiritual life and documenting your spiritual growth.
Here is a simple structure you can follow for your daily meditations and prayers. Record what you experienced during meditation and what prayers are on your heart.
Important to note, pray to the God you believe in, and if you don’t believe in God, you can still pray. Direct your prayers to the universe, to energy, or simply to ‘all that is love’. Growing your spiritual life is an incredibly important part of a healthy life. Seek, grow, and expand. Start where you are.
Meditation & Prayer Journal Exercise
Spend 5 minutes sitting silently, following your breath. Breath in and out through your nose, track your breath into your nasal passages, down you throat, into your lungs, into your belly, and then follow through the exhale. Repeat this practice to quiet your mind.
As thoughts came into your mind, do not judge them. Lovingly acknowledge them and then let them go. Bring your focus onto God or love or something that feels peaceful and beautiful to you. Sit and actively LISTEN and BE STILL. After 5 minutes of this begin to pray or talk to God.
In your journal write on the following:
“In doing this prayer and meditation today I experienced, learned, felt…”
All things in balance!
For much of my life, I was either ALL IN or ALL OUT! I swung far left then far right when it came to just about everything. This behavioral pattern was unhealthy for me and limited my success. It prevented me from achieving my goals, and it was also very frustrating!
How do we get over an all-or-nothing mentality?
Here is a simple paradigm shift that changed my life.
When all things in your life are done in a balanced way or in a way that brings harmony, the results bring positive development, success with goals, and permanent change.
Instead of choosing to approach your goals with an expectation of ‘I must do absolutely ALL of this now,’ or ‘I must do this perfectly,’ or ‘It’s pointless,” instead choose to approach it with balance, one step at a time. Celebrate progress versus demanding perfection.
I promise you will see happier and better results with this mindset!
We continue our health journey in part 2 of the guide for managing your healthcare.
Remember, it is YOUR life and your body, therefore at the end of the day it is YOUR job to care for it properly. Do not rely solely on a doctor, teacher, spouse, parent, or friend. These people may offer valuable advice but it’s not their health to manage, it’s yours!
Guide for Managing Your HealthCare: Part 2
Study, study, study. I recommend reading health articles and staying up-to-date on the latest in health and wellness. Also, when you have an issue or want to improve or prevent an issue do your own research. Do not to take everything on the internet as fact. Look up reputable sources. If you read something from a popular blogger or magazines, make sure you research the information to find scientific evidence to support it! Don’t simply take someone’s word for it!
6. Know Your Body & Think It Through
Think it through. Does the advice or treatment you are getting make sense? Ask questions and research it yourself! It is also important that we learn the basics of how our bodies function. We need to have a basic understanding of our organs, muscular and skeletal systems, and all other systems in the body (nervous, lymphatic, etc.) Remember that song ‘the knee bone is connected to the…’ that applies here. All aspects of your body are interconnected and affect each other. Discover where the root of your problem lies and learn how to resolve it!
7. Create a Plan
Create a health and wellness plan ON PAPER and follow it! I have a few blogs that show how to start a plan, as well as tools to identify key areas to focus on (look in the archives on this site.) Don’t wait for your health to get to a critical point before you pay attention to it. Pay attention now so that tomorrow will bring a healthier YOU!
8. Go Naked
Yup…thought that one might grab your attention. What I mean by ‘go naked’ is to do things naturally, without artificial things, whenever possible. Get more rest, exercise, drink more water, work on removing toxins from your life, reduce stress, and strengthen your immune system. Be proactive instead of reactive. See doctors regularly for preventative measures and NEVER skip a doctors visit if you are ill or injured! Don’t forget to ask doctors for natural remedies before taking drugs.
I will be doing another follow-up series on this subject based on reader responses. Please post below! I want to address your personal concerns and needs for managing your health and wellness!
In the past, healthcare and wellness looked very different. We trusted our mothers and doctors regarding our health and wellness. Today, we know that our parent’s advice may have led to unhealthy results. Instead of healing us, healthcare institutions, doctors, hospitals, and medical information have left us misinformed, underserved, and unwell. The overuse of medications has left us unhealthy.
In order to be healthy today, we MUST take personal responsibility for our own health and wellness, and the management of ALL its pieces.
In this two-part blog series, I will introduce some simple ways to take control of your health. I will teach you practical ways to manage doctors, healthcare, and disease prevention. You will learn to find reliable information versus ‘trendy’ opinions and fads.
How to Manage Your Healthcare
1. Keep a Record
Keep all of your healthcare records in one place. Review your own lab results and keep copies. Ask questions, keep track of changes, and look for developing patterns. Always share your discoveries with your doctors.
2. Trust Your Intuition
We used to simply trust what a doctor said. DO NOT DO THIS!!!! Do your own research. Look up natural cures and traditional medical ones. Read reputable articles and learn from other’s experiences dealing with your specific health conditions. If you feel that something isn’t right, it probably isn’t. Get a second opinion or see an alternative medical practitioner.
3. Prevention Is Key
Waiting until there is a problem is no longer a luxury. It is pure laziness that will have your health fall victim! Plan to be proactive and form DAILY habits to become healthier. I find clients intuitively know where they need to be healthier. You may not know the specific steps to get better, but you will certainly know what areas to address!
4. It Takes a Village
I have a huge health & wellness toolbox. In my toolbox are medical doctors, natural doctors, alternative practitioners, chiropractors, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practitioners, personal trainers, physical therapists, books, counselors, and life coaches. The way to build your own personal team of wellness practitioners is by asking your friends, family, and co-workers for recommendations. Keep a file and add proven health and wellness resources over time.
In part two, we will continue diving into the ‘how-tos’ of managing our health and wellness! Until then, be well!
Becoming better versions of ourselves, getting healthier, and becoming more fit are usually looked upon in a positive light. However, the driving motivators may not always come from a positive place.
What motivates you?
What drives you?
What makes you want to be better both inside and outside?
Positive vs. Negative Motivators
It is important to be self-aware and to know what motivates our actions. Do our actions come from a healthy place or a place of insecurity and fear? Both positive and negative things can be equally motivating.
What many behavioral science studies on human behavior show is that positive motivators effect long-term positive change but negative motivators do not. Negative motivators prove to only be effective while the negative motivating factor is present. Once it is removed, the motivation disappears. For instance, a doctor tells a patient they are at risk for having a heart attack. So, the patient goes on a crash diet. The crash diet may be effective in the short-term to quickly loose weight, however, the weight often returns within a few months. This is because the negative motivation, fear, is gone.
Examples of negative motivators:
I’m not good enough.
I’m not attractive.
Examples of Positive Motivators:
I want to get in better shape because I will feel better and be happier.
I am increasing the quality of my life.
I am worth the investment of time and resources.
Simple motivation check list
A good way to self-check where your motivation originates is to ask yourself these simple questions. Ask yourself boldly and answer with honesty:
- Why do I want to ________________?
- For what purpose would I or do I ________________?
- Would this action be a loving action or a loving choice?
- Would choosing to take this action be good for me? Would it be good for my family? Would it be good for the world?
Answering these questions will help you discover the root of your motivation and understand why you want create change in your life.
May you find motivation that is rooted in love and effects positive and permanent change in your life!
As an Integrative Life Coach, it is my job to help my clients not only set goals but obtain them! Many times we know what we want to achieve but do not take steps to reach our goals. There can be a number of reasons for this, let’s start at the beginning. When we set a goal, it is important to know what an successful goal looks like.
This is not an example of an effective goal.
What are S.M.A.R.T. goals?
What is a successful goal? In the coaching world this is called a SMART goal. These SMART goals help you define what steps will help you to reach your goal.
Key steps to setting S.M.A.R.T. goals:
- Write out your goals as SMART goals.
- Set an intention towards that goal. Meditate or visualize what it would be like to achieve it.
- Create task lists based on your SMART goals.
- TAKE ACTION daily!
- Let go of the outcome.
This may be challenging. There is a difference between wanting a desired outcome and being attached to a desired outcome. Many times things unfold differently than what you expected. So, remain open-minded on your path.
May you take action from a place of intention!
